TR EAEU 043/2017 Takes Effect: The 2020 Transition
On 1 January 2020, fire safety and firefighting products moved onto TR EAEU 043/2017, with one approval valid in all five member states. Certificates issued before that date remained usable until they expired, but no later than 1 July 2021, which set a hard deadline for anyone still importing on the old documents.
What changed on 1 January 2020?
The Technical Regulation of the Eurasian Economic Union TR EAEU 043/2017, Requirements to the fire safety and firefighting means, came into force. From that date, all new products, and any older product whose approval documents had expired, had to pass the Eurasian Economic Union approval procedure.
The resulting approval is valid in all five member states of the Union.
It reached a wide set of manufacturers: makers of fire extinguishing powders and gases, fire protection means for wooden structures, cable fire protection means, portable fire extinguishers, fire cabinets and much else besides. Anyone in those categories had roughly a month to finish certification under the old rules.
How long did the old fire safety certificates stay valid?

That second condition is the one that caught people out. A national certificate showing a 2023 expiry date was not usable to 2023; it stopped working on 1 July 2021 like all the others. Anyone reading only the date printed on their document planned on the wrong horizon.
What does TR EAEU 043/2017 require?
One border disappeared, and with it came new work for companies wanting to enter or stay in the EAEU market.
A local representative. Foreign producers of fire safety and firefighting equipment need a company on EAEU territory to bear responsibility for product quality and for the accuracy of the approval procedure. This is the first thing to arrange, because nothing else can start without it.
Technical documentation to specification. TR EAEU 043/2017 sets its own requirements for the manufacturer’s technical documentation, and they are stricter than most national regimes were.
EAC marking. All approved products, their packaging and their technical documentation must carry the EAC mark.
One of two approval forms. Certificate of conformity or declaration of conformity. The regulation assigns the form by product, so the applicant does not choose.
Why this still matters
The transition itself is now history, but its shape is the shape every EAEU regulation change takes: a commencement date, a run-off period for existing documents with a hard ceiling regardless of their printed expiry, and a requirement for a resident applicant before any of it can begin.
Knowing that pattern is what turns the next commencement notice into a planning exercise rather than an emergency.
