TR CU 004/2011: low-voltage equipment safety

TR CU 004/2011 governs the safety of low-voltage equipment across the Union, from 50 to 1000 V AC and 75 to 1500 V DC. Household appliances, tools, lighting, IT equipment, adapters and industrial motors under 1000 V all sit inside it, and above 1000 V AC there is still no EAEU regulation at all. The product list names which categories certify and which declare, and for most consumer products the answer is a certificate: samples tested in an accredited Union laboratory, and for serial production a visit to the factory. Industrial equipment more often declares.

Two things the regulation asks for catch people out. One certificate can cover TR CU 004 and TR CU 020 together, so file them as one job. And the operating manual is a document the regulation defines: mandatory contents, in Russian, with an electronic-only version permitted for one case, equipment for non-household use. Without the manual a technically complex product cannot be sold in the Union, and a body will not close the file on a translation that misses the required sections.
