Strength Calculation: Why TR CU 032 Will Not Move Without It

A strength calculation proves a product can operate safely under the loads it will actually meet. TR CU 032/2013 names it as a required document, and only calculations drawn up to GOST 34233.1-2017, GOST 14249-89 and their companion standards are accepted, in the Union's working language. A manufacturer's existing calculation from another system does not carry over.

What is a strength calculation?

A study that establishes that an object will operate safely under specific conditions and specific loads. Put plainly: the document proving the product can take heavy loads and keep working in harsh, sometimes extreme, conditions, which is exactly what the products it applies to are built to do.

It is a long document. Formulas and equations for the mechanical properties of the equipment, alongside the basic specification and drawings of the item being calculated.

Why does TR CU 032 need it?

Because the regulation names it. TR CU 032/2013, On the safety of equipment operating under excessive pressure, lists the strength calculation among the required documents, so no declaration and no certificate is issued without one.

The technical regulations of the Eurasian Economic Union are not uniform in what they demand. Validity periods differ: TR CU 018, on wheeled vehicles, runs for 4 years where most run for 5. Document lists differ more. Confirming the safety of a toy is not the same exercise as confirming the safety of a vending machine, and the documents follow the product.

Companion standards in the same series cover particular element types. Only calculations drawn up to these standards are accepted when issuing a declaration or certificate under TR CU 032.

Will my existing strength calculation be accepted?

Most foreign manufacturers already have one. Their own customers ask for it, and many certification systems around the world require it, so the document is familiar.

There is no acceptance route into the EAEU for it. A calculation the manufacturer has already produced will not be accepted unless it is drawn up in full compliance with the GOST standards and provided in the Union’s working language. Two conditions, and both have to hold.

This is a redrawing job rather than a translation job. The GOST methods prescribe how the calculation is structured and which cases must be covered; a document built around another system’s methods does not become compliant by being rendered into the Union’s working language.

What this means for planning

Treat the strength calculation as lead time. It is one of the few TR CU 032 documents that cannot be produced quickly at the end of a project, and it is one that a certification body will not begin without.

The practical order is: settle the equipment category first, so you know whether you are heading for a declaration or a certificate; then commission the strength calculation and the technical data sheet to GOST 34347-2017 in parallel with the testing arrangements.
